About Dropbox

Dropbox provides cloud storage, file synchronization and collaboration software. Files placed in a Dropbox folder are synchronized to the company's servers and to the user's computers and phones. The service also covers sharing links with passwords and expiration dates, version history and recovery, team folders, PDF editing and annotation, video review and approval, document e-signature, secure document sending with activity tracking, and AI-assisted search across company content. Plans run from a free Basic account with 2 GB of storage to personal, team and enterprise tiers, and the company reported revenue of $2.52 billion for 2025.

Dropbox, Inc. was founded in May 2007 by Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi while they were students at MIT; the company was incorporated as Evenflow, Inc. and took the Dropbox name in October 2009. It took part in Y Combinator's early cohorts, passed 700 million users in 2021, and went public on Nasdaq in March 2018 under the ticker DBX. It is headquartered in San Francisco and employed 2,204 people in 2024.

The company has bought a series of services, including the e-signature product HelloSign in 2019, DocSend in 2021, FormSwift in 2022 and the AI scheduling tool Reclaim.ai in 2024, and it moved to a virtual-first remote work model in 2021. In May 2026 the company announced a leadership change in which co-founder Drew Houston would serve as co-CEO alongside Ashraf Alkarmi before moving to executive chairman; the official site lists both as co-CEOs.
