About Akamai Technologies
Akamai was founded in 1998 by MIT mathematician Tom Leighton and graduate student Daniel Lewin, and built one of the first content delivery networks. Its edge platform delivers a large share of the world's web traffic, streaming video and software downloads.
Today Akamai is also a major security vendor (web application and API protection, DDoS defence, zero-trust segmentation) and offers cloud computing after acquiring Linode in 2022.
