Employment Hero

Employment Hero was founded in Sydney in 2014 and builds a combined HR, payroll, recruitment and benefits platform for small and medium-sized businesses. It grew out of a payroll product for Australian companies and now markets what it calls an Employment Operating System, covering pay runs, rostering, leave, expenses, hiring and employee engagement. It raised capital through several rounds including a Series E led by Insight Partners in 2021, and its LinkedIn profile lists around 1,900 staff.

The Australian payroll product is an ATO-recognised platform handling Single Touch Payroll Phase 2 reporting, superannuation processing through an embedded payment product called HeroClear, modern award interpretation, PAYG tax calculation and Payday Super obligations. A managed payroll service adds dedicated payroll specialists who run pay cycles for the customer. The company also publishes a separate UK payroll product that is on HM Revenue and Customs' recognised software list, files Full Payment Submissions through RTI, and handles statutory pay and pension auto-enrolment through a service called PensionSync.

Head office is in Sydney, with offices listed in Kuala Lumpur, Auckland, Singapore, Toronto and London. Pricing is per user per month with a minimum seat count, and payroll features are bundled into higher tiers rather than sold as a standalone entry plan.
